Our Approach to Tele-Therapy
Healing Matters Counseling Center's approach to therapy is trauma-informed, LGBTQIA+ affirming, and BIPOC allied.
While we can certainly list the therapy modalities that we are trained in (see below), it might help to give some general statements about how we see people change and learn through the therapy process -
-
People grow, learn, and heal in the context of relationships
-
Building safety and trust takes time, intentionality, and choice
-
We build insight by understanding how our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors interact
-
Looking at our childhood experiences can help us better understand our current (adult) patterns
-
It takes courage to do “the work,” but in the end, it’s the best way to live the life you want to live
While our therapist considers themselves eclectic and truly focused on meeting you where you’re at therapeutic modality and otherwise, she is formally trained in the following -
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)
Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) Modified for Intellectual/Developmental Disabilities
Motivational Interviewing (MI)
Exposure, Response, Prevention (ERP) Therapy for OCD
LGBTQIA+ Affirming Practice
Mindfulness-based Therapy
Family Systems Therapy
Arts-based interventions
